Cartoon: Recreational Drugs

One of my close friends recently graduated from pharmacy school. I wanted to make her a card, so, naturally, I had to come up with a pun that tied in drugs and celebrating her accomplishments: “Let’s Celebrate! (But maybe not with recreational drugs…)”

April Showers bring May (and June?) Flowers

Cards I made in April for a local hospice. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’ve been making 6–8 hand-made “Thinking of You” cards each month for a local hospice to give to their patients’ families. I love the feeling of being assigned something artsy like this to do, and I love hoping that each card might brighten a stranger’s day. I’ve been so busy the past couple of months changing jobs, that I’ve missed my goal of posting something on this blog each month, unfortunately! Therefore, today I’m going to share a collection of my favorite cards I’ve…

Volunteer Work: Hand-Made Cards

Getting crafty with these wintery cards I made for January and February. I’ve been on Volunteer Match for a couple years now, looking for ways to do some volunteer work here and there, and just recently came across an opportunity that felt perfect for me – a “Caring Cards Volunteer” at a local hospice. The work entails making 6–8 hand-made “Thinking of You” cards a month from home. The cards are then sent out to families on the anniversary of a deceased loved one, to let them know that the hospice is thinking about them. The hospice could simply buy…

Comic: Misinformed

I took a stab at making a comic! This idea was floating around in my head during the past year, throughout the tense election season. One argument that I often heard was, “Oh, it’s sad how misinformed the supporters on the other side are.” And, having a diverse group of friends and family, I often heard this argument come from both sides of the isle. So, it occurred to me that, while yes, some groups of people are more misinformed than others, there could always be somebody who knows more than you, especially if they have a view from the…

February Desktop Wallpaper

I’ve been a fan of Smashing Magazine for a couple years now, and one of my favorite things about their blog is their Desktop Wallpaper Calendar series. Each month, they take in submissions of wallpaper designs from around the world, and post them to share with readers. It’s honestly something I look forward to seeing every month, because I love seeing the variety of design styles, and I always end up with new desktop backgrounds on all of my screens that fit the mood of the month to me. This month, I got around to submitting one, and it’s now…

A Work in Progress: The Point of This Blog

Like many others, I’ve thought about starting a blog for a while now. It’s not that I day dream about being a writer; it’s not that I hope my voice will be heard by the world; in fact, I’m not sure if anyone will ever read this. It’s the simple fact that I’m convinced that having a blog will help motivate me to practice more – practice designing, and practice writing. And what better time to start than the new year? The main goal of my website it to share my professional design work with the world in hopes of,…
